Core-drill route selector

This decision table can show a provisional route only. It does not select equipment or give permission to drill.

Method and worked example

Apply specialist-hazard suppression first. Reinforced concrete with wet permitted: ≤162 mm → provisional stand-based wet route; >162 to 500 mm → provisional heavy stand route. Reinforced concrete with wet prohibited/unknown → no generic route. Masonry dry ≤250 mm → manufacturer-specific dry route. Above 500 mm or unknown material → specialist route/no route.

Worked example: 180 × 350 mm reinforced concrete, wet permitted → provisional heavy stand-system route, while structural opening, reinforcement/services scan, exact capacities, working length, anchoring, breakthrough and water/slurry controls remain required.

Worked example — default entered values

Provisional heavy stand-system route.

Required confirmations: exact motor/stand range; core-bit working length; anchoring; breakthrough; water/slurry controls; competent planning.

Assumptions register

180 mm diameter × 350 mm depth · reinforced concrete · wet permitted · reinforcement yes · structural confirmed · services confirmed

162 mm is the cited manufacturer handheld upper range, not a universal legal threshold.

500 mm reflects the cited heavy rig range.

The selector prefers a stand route for reinforced concrete.

Reinforced concrete may be structural even when not labelled as such.

△ No instruction to begin

Unknown structure or services fails closed. Hazard, wet-method, anchorage, component capacity, overhead water/electrical control or breakthrough conflicts are stop conditions.

FIT CHECK. This is a provisional planning route, not equipment selection or permission to drill. Structural stability, anchorage, services, exact component capacity, breakthrough, water/electrical and competent-person controls govern.
