Method and worked example

LEX,8h = 10 log10((Σ tᵢ × 10^(Lᵢ/10)) ÷ 8)

Do not arithmetically average decibels. Worked example: 88 dB(A) × 2 h plus 94 dB(A) × 0.5 h gives 84.9794123007, displayed as 84.98 dB(A).

Decision bands: below 80; 80 to below 85; 85 and above. The 87 dB(A) limit value is after accounting for hearing protection and is not an unadjusted-result comparison.
